The Fox and the Crow

Aesop’s fable·~150 words·~1 min read

A hungry fox flatters a crow to make her drop her cheese.

One morning a crow found a piece of cheese. She flew up into a tall tree to eat it. She sat on a branch and held the cheese in her beak.

A hungry fox saw the crow and the cheese. He wanted it. So he stood under the tree and looked up. "Good morning, beautiful crow," he said. "Your feathers are so black and bright. Your eyes shine like stars."

The crow was very happy. The fox went on. "I am sure your voice is the sweetest of all birds. Please sing one song for me."

The crow was so proud that she opened her beak to sing. The cheese fell down, and the fox caught it. "Thank you," he laughed. "Your voice is fine, but your head is empty."

Moral: Do not trust people who only say nice things.
